Heartlights

Deep in the forest, among the taowoods in the city of the Feye, Princess Timanokee is awakened from a life of dreamy indulgence by the discovery that she is pregnant. She has a second heartlight growing within her, and she cannot hide it for long.

Timanokee's baby forces her to grow with it, for in her sheltered life, she is blissfully unaware that her father is a tyrant, and her clandestine lover's family is foremost among his enemies. When he learns of her condition, he starts a war, and Timanokee finds that she and her baby are the spark that lit the fire.

As the growing baby's form is slowly revealed inside her translucent skin, so too are the hidden truths of Timanokee's friends, her family, her lover, and her people. Everything changes, and for Timanokee, it is as painful and as miraculous as the birth to come.
